"If you like your fish and chips, you need to look after Moreton Bay Marine Park. Why? Worldwide the commercial fishing industry is mostly in terminal decline, and 40% of Australia's commercial fish catch starts its life in our mangroves and sea grass meadows - they're natural nurseries for fish.

Brisbane is the only capital city on the planet that can boast dugongs at its doorstep. If the Park is properly conserved to ensure that the dugongs and fish flourish, those same conditions guarantee a healthy ecosystem into the future for all locals to enjoy.

Moreton Bay Marine Park is one of the world's great gardens, and it's one of Brisbane's greatest natural assets. That's why I strongly support at least 30% of Moreton Bay being protected by fishing-free sanctuary areas (aka ‘protection zones’).
